Why are there a different subscriptions (e.g. Plan1, Plan1-GC), depending on whether a gift certificate is used for payment?
     With Plan1, the payment method must be credit card and annual subscription renewals can therefore be charged to that credit card, just like other recurring payments that you may have. (Before being charged, you have the option to cancel.) 
     Plan1-GC uses a gift certificate as payment method and includes a one year subscription. There is therefore no credit card on record that can be charged for subscription renewal for the second year or following years. (To renew, you can then use Plan1-SubscriptionRenewal.)
